Halloween 2012

Carter was pretty excited for Halloween this year, and that got Caleb excited too.  He really just wanted to see what the fuss was all about.  Of course, it helped that Lorein made such awesome costumes.

Peter Pan contemplating the big questions in life, like which street to go down first.

Practicing eavesdropping at the window sill.

If all the lost boys looked like that, I don't think any would be orphans.

And joined by Wendy.

Peter is done with pictures and ready to take flight.

But the lost boy wants to do some more posing.

We soon met up with Dorothy and the Scarecrow (our neighbors, Elliott and Charity).

He's on a mission!  Caleb really got into trick or treating.  He didn't miss a house.

Caleb got so excited when a lady gave him that sucker.  He immediately held it up and went, "WHOA!"  He made us unwrap it immediately.  Now my arms are all sticky from carrying him and that pumpkin is a mess.

Carter knows what it's all about.

And the best part is . . . check out all our leftover candy!!

BYU v. Notre Dame

My Dad took me to the BYU-Notre Dame game last Saturday in South Bend.  It was a ton of fun, but what I liked most was just being in some cold weather.  It was 89 degrees when I left San Antonio, and 43 when I landed in Chicago.  It was so nice!  As for the game itself, I really enjoyed the first half and the carved turkey sandwich I got at halftime (those midwesterners sure know their food!).  The rest, well, not as fun.

In front of Touchdown Jesus (officially known as "The Word of Life")

On Notre Dame campus in what must be my official pose (hands in pockets, body slightly angled from camera)

I took this picture just to prove we were tied at one point

I took this picture to prove we were winning at one point.  I didn't take any more pictures.

Summer in San Antonio

People told us the weather in San Antonio was nice. After living here for two years, we have come to the conclusion that all those people were either from Greenland or northern Sweden.  The weather here is decidedly not nice.  The weather here is hot.  Really hot.  And the days it's not blistering hot, it's still humid.  So literally every day this summer (summer being March through still ongoing) my family went to the pool.  Every day.  In fact, just last week, my wife was yelling at our neighbor because she told Lorein the pool was closed, so Lorein didn't go even though it was hot.  It turns out the pool is not yet closed.  The summer did give our boys a chance to get a good tan and try out some sunglasses poses though.

It was pretty much a shirtless summer

Carter took swimming lessons, while Caleb learned on his own

Summers are for being cool

And for laying out with a nice snack.

A couple videos

This kid can move!

In my opinion, Carter was definitely the star of the primary program.

Triumphant Return!

Just so you know, our year-long hiatus from the blogosphere had nothing to do with laziness.  It was an elaborate plot to leave you aching for more so that we could come back most triumphantly.  All in all, though, it's not like we had a very exciting year.  I mean, so we moved at Thanksgiving for the third time in three years?  So I was promoted from "Trial Counsel" to "Chief of Military Justice"?  So Caleb turned one?  So Carter turned four?  So Lorein told me I can't do the dishes anymore because I'm too slow and made me take over giving the boys baths instead?  So what.  If we had blogged about any of that, you all would have stopped reading.  Hence the need for a getaway and a chance to regenerate some creative juices.  In order to come back with a bang, here are some pics and videos of Carter and Caleb, since I know that's all you care about.

With the peacocks at The Quadrangle

Caleb quickly learned to love Costco

And is getting good at relaxing

All this attention on Caleb made Carter jealous though.  He realized he was going to have to do something drastic to make us take pictures of him too.  Fortunately, Carter is a very intelligent, creative child, and so quickly came up with a solution . . . he cut his hair.

Caleb was less than thrilled

In fact, he thought it was downright weird

But Carter looked so dang good . . .

That Caleb decided it was time to accessorize too.
